Cougars appear to be traveling into Missouri, Oklahoma, Kansas and even across Texas

Missouri is nicknamed the “Show Me State,” folks there somehow having been compared in hardheadedness to a jackass. Hence the old saying: ‘He’s stubborn as a mule from Missouri.”
That state also is known for its music halls dedicated to aging country music icons and now another iconic animal, the mountain lion, so a new slogan could be “Home of Old Singers and Cougars.” Maybe that wouldn’t sound so good on a license plate, so let’s stick with mountain lion, a less confusing name and the most common among the animal’s many — catamount, puma and panther being among the others.
