Cougars were protected in Custer State Park, which is in the Black Hills, until the 2011 cougar season.   Probably this fact contributed to this cougar’s longevity.

GF&P recaptures familiar lion in Custer State Park

Biologists with the state Game, Fish & Parks Department checked in with a familiar old lion in Custer State Park on Tuesday.

Her name is F-27.
